What is Microcurrent Point Stimulation?

MPS Therapy is an FDA-approved therapy that combines the principles of acupuncture and neurology with microcurrent stimulation. MPS Therapy is successfully helping many clients control pain levels, improve outcomes and with long-term effects. This treatment method helps tissue heal faster and relieves pain caused by injury or chronic conditions.

Outcomes are achieved by applying concentrated microcurrent impulses to trigger motor and acupuncture points, providing quick and effective pain relief.

How does MPS work?

The MPS device locates and applies concentrated DC microcurrent to therapeutically active points (acupuncture and trigger) to relax muscles, calm the nervous system, and release endorphins—the body’s natural painkillers.

The handheld device is engineered to detect and treat these active points with great scientific precision and potency, stimulating all three systems at once: nervous, muscular, and endocrine.
Recent studies showcase the effectiveness of MPS therapies. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine looked at the effects of a single session of MPS Therapy applied to the lower back of 34 patients who reported a history of nonspecific chronic neck pain. The study states:

“Pain intensity showed an initial statistically significant reduction of 68 percent in mean neck pain levels after standard protocol treatment when compared to initial pain levels.” The study further found that neck pain continued to decrease over the 48 hours following treatment with a “statistically significant reduction of 35 percent . . . for a total average pain relief of 80 percent.”

What conditions can MPS treat?

There are several pain conditions MPS therapy can treat! In the hands of a trained therapist, MPS can aid a variety of conditions including, but not limited to:

● Arthritic pain
● Chronic headaches
● Back pain and sciatica
● Knee pain
● Fibromyalgia
● Inflamed joints

During your Comber Physical Therapy physical therapist appointment, a therapist will assess your condition. If you have been previously diagnosed with one of the conditions mentioned above, your treatment plan will integrate with that diagnosis.

The goal of therapy is to help you decrease your pain, prevent it from coming back, and/or eliminate it depending on its severity. If MPS treatment is a good fit for you, rest assured that your physical therapist will seamlessly incorporate it into your recovery program!
